Small school. Strong minds. Franklin Sherman is the smallest elementary school in Fairfax County, and school budgets are built on enrollment. Fewer students means a smaller share of county funding, even though the bus that gets a class to the museum, a visiting author, or improved shared technology upgrades doesn't shrink to match.
That's where our community comes in. We're fortunate to be a school family with the capacity to step in where the budget stops, and a culture of doing exactly that. Many of us chose Fairfax County Public Schools precisely for the opportunities our strong public system offers our children, and at a school our size, our PTA is what makes sure our students get their full share of exceptional resources.
Your support is the bridge. It's the difference between a small budget and a small experience
Join Our Community
Last year, our PTA raised around $50,000 and put 100% of it back into our school the same year for much needed support: classroom technology, new library furniture, field trips for every grade, assemblies, and support for the teachers and staff who show up for our kids every day. Your membership and joining the PTA is what makes that possible.
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions:
What does my membership fee fund?
Your dues go directly toward funding curriculum needs, technology updates, field trips, Guest Speakers, Furniture Needs, and and school-wide events.
Do I have to volunteer if I join?
Not at all! Membership is a way to support the school financially and stay informed. While we love volunteers, there is no pressure to give your time unless you want to.
How long does my membership last?
PTA memberships are valid for one academic school year, starting July 1, and need to be renewed each fall to stay active in our directories and voting processes. Please use the link above to join for this school year!
How much does membership cost?
Membership is $30 per family, per year. There is a link below, and it takes less than 2 minutes. All donations to the PTA are all tax deductible, the FSES PTA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit
How does my child benefit if I join the PTA?
Your membership helps provide programs, improvements, and resources for your child. Studies also show that children tend to thrive when families are engaged in their school community.
The PTA is one of the easiest ways to connect with other Franklin Sherman families. Whether you're new to the school or have been here for years, your involvement will help you and your child meet families, build friendships, and feel more connected to the school community.
